Homework will be set on a Friday and will be expected to be returned (completed) the following Tuesday. Can you make sure homework is completed in pencil.
This term, we would like children to practise all year 1 and 2 common exception words instead of our 'Super Speller' tests. Each Friday morning, the children will be asked to write some sentences which will contain some of these words. We will use this to assess whether or not the children are confident in using and applying the spellings into their written work.
A copy of these exception words have been put in your child's book bag and we have also included a link below.
A Right Royal WOW Day
At the end of our 'Heroes' topic, year 2 came into school to find that they had some royal visitors. Class 5 were visited by Queen Victoria and Class 6 were visited by Queen Elizabeth I. The children had lots of fun, making their Queens a throne to sit on and a crown to wear. They then found out lots of information about what the Queens were like and what England was like during their reign. In the afternoon, the children bought their queens together to discuss and debate which queen was the best.
Welcome to Summer term!
Food, Glorious Food..............
A new term, a new topic and we have one sure to tickle one's taste-buds!!! Our new topic is called 'Food, Glorious Food' and is all about, you guessed it... FOOD!!! We started our new topic with a fantastic WOW day, which all the children enjoyed immensely. Mrs Foster even came to see what we had been up to!
We had our own, 'Ready, Steady, Cook!' where the children were given a bag of ingredients and had to make something to eat for the rest of the children in the class. We had an enormous feast!!! There were sandwiches, salad, fruit kebabs drizzled in chocolate, decorated biscuits and pitta pizzas. It was amazing! Check out our photo album to see the fun.....
You are what you eat!
This afternoon, year 2 have been learning about the different food groups and what makes a balanced diet. We explored the importance of each of the food groups and what their role is in keeping our bodies happy and healthy. We need to make sure we eat lots of fruit and vegetables to keep our eyes and our blood healthy, but it also helps with our digestion too, getting rid of waste from our body (by going for a poo!). We also need to eat carbohydrates (bread, pasta, rice, potatoes) for energy, protein (meat, fish, eggs) for body repair when we hurt ourselves and dairy (milk, cheese, yogurts) for healthy teeth and bones.
'But what about vegetarians?' said Reiss 'How do they get enough protein?'
What a good question! Great thinking skills! Vegetarians can get their protein from nuts, beans, lentils and pulses, as well as eggs and fish if they eat those too!
Today we planted our own herb gardens........
Make sure that you place your herb garden in the kitchen window so that it can get lots of sunlight and water it every day.
Our very own menu, served to the school...
As part of our topic work, we have been exploring the different food groups that we eat. We learnt about why our body needs the different food groups and how much of eat food group we should aim to eat each day. Taking all this new knowledge into consideration, year 2 developed their own menu to be served in our canteen. Today, their meal was served and seemed to go down rather well..........
