Welcome to the Reception Year Group page.

We will be updating this page on a weekly basis to let you know about some of the things we are doing in Reception. We will be adding important information, key dates and useful internet links to support your children’s learning. We will also be adding photos and videos to show you some of the exciting things we are doing in school.

Sports week has been a great success. The children have taken part in lots of different sports including basketball, dodgeball, football and running. We have been talking about healthy lifestyles and finding out about what it takes to be a sports star. The children have been fantastic! Sports Day today was brilliant, your children made us all very proud.
This week we have been real life scientists. We have been observing minibeasts in their natural habitats. We have been finding out about where they like to live, how they move and looking closely at them to see what colours they are and if they have legs or wings. We have managed to find a few caterpillars which we are going to look after so that we can see them turn into butterflies.
It's been a great first week back. This week we have been learning about values. The children have worked in groups to create their own 'values party'. They have made posters and banners and talked about  certain values to the rest of the class. The children voted for the best group, just like we have been doing for the general election. The winning groups are going to work together to do something for the school.
This week we have been building houses for the Three Little Pigs. We built houses out of straw, sticks and bricks. Then, the Big Bad Wolf came along and tried to blow our houses down. Don't worry we put him in a pot of boiling water and he ran off!
Our chickens are arriving on Thursday afternoon. We can't wait to start looking after them. If anyone wants to buy eggs off us we will be selling them as soon as the hens start laying.
This week we are learning about the story of the 'Three Little Pigs'. The children have been making houses to stop the big,bad wolf from catching them.
In our maths lessons we are learning about subtraction. There are a couple of fun games you can play with your children if you click on the links below.
Over the next few weeks we are going to be learning about some famous traditional tales. This week we have begun with “Jack and the Beanstalk”. On Monday the Giant came to visit us. He was extremely grumpy. He stormed into the classroom and tried to steal some children. Luckily, Miss Holland scared him away.
Amazingly, a beanstalk magically appeared in Class 2. It must be incredible!

This week we have been making giant mud pies in the Mud Kitchen. We have also been using our hands and feet to measure all kinds of things.

The Reception shop has also been updated. It now sells shoes. Children can come along, get their feet measured and buy themselves a lovely new pair of shoes.

It's been another great week in Reception. We are going to be doing even more things about 'Jack and the Beanstalk' next week. Apparently, the giant is coming back!
