Welcome from the Chair

My name is Frances Millett and I am privileged to be the Chair of Governors at West Heath Primary School.

I was elected to this post in November 2013 when the new Governing Body was
constituted. The main role of the Governors is to support the school with making sure that all pupils at West Heath Primary School receive a high standard of education and care so they can reach their potential in a happy, caring and hard-working school.

Governors are a committed group of volunteers, carefully chosen, who bring a wide range of professional and social skills to support the school.  Our aim is to make sure that West Heath is a school where education matters to everyone involved.

Governors meet two or three times a term.  Their duties cover the most important aspects of school life and we support the Headteacher fully with her drive for improvement.  At our meetings we focus on:-

Achievement: We discuss academic standards and monitor pupil progress across the school comparing standards with local and national data.

Teaching and Learning: We discuss the curriculum and ensure the teaching is good.  We ensure that every pupil is supported on their journey towards achieving their potential in all aspects.

Behaviour and Safety: We ensure statutory policies are in place and that procedures are there to protect and support all pupils regardless of ethnicity, religion, gender or ability.  We encourage high standards of behaviour both in the classroom and on the playground, through policies and practice.

Leadership and Management: We work closely with the Headteacher and other school leaders to ensure that current educational practice is the best so that the pupils can benefit.  We also pursue financial matters and ensure that health and safety is an important priority for everyone.

Being a school Governor is hard work but it is very rewarding and enjoyable!

Being part of the wider team who are supporting the Headteacher and staff at West Heath and seeing it develop into a ‘Good’ or ‘Outstanding’ school is the best experience there is.
